Whether you want to lose weight or not, I believe there is one thing we should all make room for in our lives: exercise.
And I’m not saying that because everyone needs to fit into a certain size or look a certain way.
Exercise is about so much more than weight.
It’s about your health, your energy, your brain, your mood, and the quality of the life you get to live.
You Don’t Have to Exercise for Weight Loss
We often think of exercise as something we need to do to lose weight. But that can make movement feel like a punishment — something we have to do because we ate too much or because the number on the scale isn’t where we want it to be.

I prefer to look at it differently.
Move because your body benefits from moving.
Regular physical activity can support cardiovascular health, help maintain strength and mobility, improve energy levels, support brain health, and contribute to a better mood.
And you don’t need to change your body size to earn those benefits.
Think About What Exercise Gives You
For me, the bigger question isn’t, “How much weight will I lose?”
It’s:
- Will I have more energy?
- Will I be stronger and more capable?
- Will I be supporting my long-term health?
- Will I feel better mentally?
- Will I be able to keep doing the things I enjoy?
- Will I be investing in my quality of life?
Those are pretty good reasons to get moving.
There Isn’t One “Right” Way to Exercise
You don’t have to spend hours in a gym.
You can exercise at home. Go for a walk in the park. Ride a bike. Swim. Run. Hike. Dance. Play a sport. Take the stairs. Find something that you actually enjoy doing.
The best exercise is often the kind you can keep doing consistently.
Some days that might be a challenging workout. Other days, it might simply be a walk.
That’s okay.
Your Size Doesn’t Determine Whether You Should Move
Exercise shouldn’t be reserved for people who are trying to lose weight.
Every body deserves movement.
Whether your goal is weight loss, maintaining your current health, getting stronger, having more energy, clearing your head, or simply feeling good in your body, physical activity has a place in your life.
So don’t wait until you reach a certain weight or body size before you start.
Start where you are.
Move in a way that works for you.
And most importantly, don’t let perfection become another excuse not to begin.
You have plenty of options. Find one you enjoy, make it part of your life, and keep moving.
Do it for your health. Do it for your energy. Do it for your brain. Do it for your mood. Do it for the life you want to keep living.
